Bajaj Chetak Zooms to the Top: Leads Electric Scooter Sales in Q4 FY25

Pune, April 10, 2025: Bajaj Auto has taken the electric two-wheeler market by storm, emerging as the top-selling electric scooter brand in India for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025 (Q4 FY25). The iconic Bajaj Chetak has clinched a commanding 29% market share, outpacing rivals like Ola Electric and TVS Motor Co., according to a report highlighted in posts on X today, including one from user @abhirammodak. This late entrant into the electric vehicle race has proven its mettle, cementing its dominance with a stellar performance in March, where it sold 30,133 units.

The star of this surge is the 2025 Chetak 35 series, launched in December 2024. Priced between ₹1.20 lakh and ₹1.27 lakh (ex-showroom), this premium variant offers a robust 153 km range on a single charge, thanks to its 3.5 kWh battery and 4 kW motor. With features like a touchscreen TFT display, 35 liters of under-seat storage, and an all-metal body, the Chetak 35 series has struck a chord with buyers seeking reliability and style. The March sales alone reflect Bajaj’s growing grip on the market, driven by this new model and an expanded network of over 3,800 outlets nationwide.

Once a dominant name in India’s scooter scene in the 1970s, the Chetak nameplate has made a remarkable comeback in its electric avatar since its relaunch in 2020. What started as a slow burn has turned into a full-on charge, with Bajaj doubling its market share from 11% in FY24 to 20% in FY25. Industry watchers point to the company’s focus on innovation and customer trust as key to this turnaround, leaving competitors scrambling to catch up. As electric mobility heats up in India, Bajaj Auto’s Chetak is clearly leading the pack—at least for now.
